    Hey all,

    I just got back from a fitting. I am getting AP2s, and my 6 iron goes 185-195. I am between Project X 6.0 and DG S300 shafts, they feel totally different to me but the data was about the same, not enough to help me with the choice. 6.0 felt lighter but stiffer than s300.

    1st questions, 6.0 or S300 and why? Cost is not a consideration, looking for performance and feel.

    2nd question, should I get the same shafts for my wedges as I have in my irons? I have tons of conflicting info from people/fitters on this. I used to play S200 in my wedges and px5.5 in my irons, and had completely different feel and had to adjust swing moving between clubs.

    thanks!

    Mike,

    You definitely have to consider which one will feel the best, but don't forget the characteristics that they provide.  The S300 will launch and spin the ball less, so if you are launching/spinning the ball too much then the S300 may be the better option.  As far as the consistency goes with the same shaft in the irons and wedges, that is more personal preference.  Wedge shots can be very "feel" shots and many players like the consistent feel they have in their irons to be in their wedges.  The progression going from an iron to a wedge should require you to tweak your swing to fit the club.  With that said, it isn't all that uncommon for players to use slightly lighter weight in their wedges (again feel).

    Hope this helps.

    I know there are several Tour pros who go to a slightly softer shaft in their wedges.  For example, going from an X100 to an S400.
    Something to think about.

    Hi Mike,

    If it is better control you are looking for, my opinion is go with the Proj. X. And most definitely keep the same feel and control in your wedges. You cant go wrong with that prescription! I have done it both of the ways you have just suggested, and Proj. X in all will lower your scores. Sorry hope that doesn't sound like an add for Rifle, it is not. Only trying to help.

    Thanks! I will take each shaft for another spin/test before I make the call.

    I wend back to get the actual numbers, since the feel was so different.  I actually had lower spin with the 6.0s. I had around 8000s spin rate with s300 and x100, the 6.0 was 6300s, but the launch angle for the 6.0 was 18-19, and the s300 and x100 were 12-15ish. So, yes the launch angle and flight was lower, but the spin was higher for the s300 and x100, distance was about the same, shot shape was same, dispersion with the 6.0 was a little better. My club speed is 95 with 6i, carry 195.  With that data do you have any recommendations for irons and wedge shafts?

    I have PX 6.5s in my irons and i swing my 6 iron about 95mph too and about 190yds with it and they are amazing i also have PX 6.0s in my Vokeys and they match perfectly with my irons so i would recommend PX in 6.0 or 6.5. I do prefer a little stiffer feeling shaft personally.      Jon.

  9. PW (46) & GW (52) ; same as all irons, in my case PX6.5

    in 56 and 60 I used S400, I noticed TW copied me! - These clubs are used for 1/2 shots so I'm not generating the same head speed as with 2-PW so softer shaft works very well and I find the S400 provides more control than S300.

    S300 = FCM 5.8

    PX6.0  = FCM 6.5 so quite a bit stiffer than S300

    PX 6.5 = FCM 7.0 so stiffer than X100 @FCM=6.8
