I currently own a D2 910 driver and my setting is at D1 position but I have noticed that I am currently hooking the ball. My perfect shot is a draw and very rarely 100% straight. I read in a previous post that the D2 driver has a higher dynamic face closure than the D3 and D4, which means that it is easier to close the face. My question is, should I change my driver to the D3 or D4 to try and avoid closing the face? and with which of these would I sacrifice less forgiveness?

On the other hand, what if i change the setting to C1, could that help?

    HC: 17 Thanks,

Your setting of D1 is an OPEN clubface setting, D3 and D4 will close the clubface. I have attached the chart for you. C1 will keep the open clubface but flatten the lie of the club.

Check with your local fitter/professional. They will get you dialed in very quickly.

Change the setting. You don't need a new driver

Could be the setting, could be the shaft, could be the swing and or grip size. You don't need a new driver that's for sure! I would change the setting and if that doesn't help go for a swing evaluation. I only say that because I would hope you got fitted for your sticks and the shaft should be correct.

I have that same driver 910 D2 9.5 loft & I have mine set on D1 as I prefer the .75 less loft. I usually straight or draw but have had some issues with more hooking on occasion but it's been more my swing plane than the setting of my driver. I've tinkered with D4, C2 & A1 and found my ball flight is best at D1. I was fitted for the shaft I have in it.

Do you toe in the driver at address or have it square to target at address? Maybe weaken your grip and see if that lessens your hand rotation.

I'd start with some swing drills to see if you get off plane or over rotate during the takeaway or turn too soon during downswing, drop your hands, hands too high etc etc. If that doesn't help go to a professional who can evaluate your swing. But I agree you don't need a new driver.

My handicap is close to yours. When I'm hooking the driver, it is definitely a swing fault. Before putting out $400+ for a new driver, see if there is something you've picked up. Mine is over-swinging and starting to turn over the club as the face is going through the ball. Find your fault...then treat yourself to a new driver you work out with a fitting. The 915 will be more forgiving than the 910.

I play my 915 D3 at the D1 position, slightly more open face. I have played in the C1 position as well, however seemed to start the ball right of target line. The D1 with the correct take-away has produced straight to slight 3-5 yd. draw, I just slow down and focus on keeping the club head outside of my hands on the take-away.

19Hole gave you some great advice. Otherwise go to your local range with your Titleist wrench and spend some needed time hitting balls and adjusting your club until you get dialed in. That is what I do. When I hook the ball I am normally over swinging. Good luck.

Thanks all for your input. I will check my swing plane... and grip. I use a medium size grip... square at address... And usually notice i swing hard when hooking.

    Thanks again,

When I hook the ball its normally due to hanging back, not getting the weight to the front foot and my hands releasing. I too just ordered a 915D2. Although I hit my current 910D2 well, I am always looking to improve. I heard 915 gives better distance on both center/off center strikes. I am playing to an 11. I was fit for the Diamana Blue 65 for my 910. The stock shaft closest to that is the Diamana Blue S+, but is 5 grams lighter. Does anyone have an opinion on the difference in shaft weight vs ball flight?

John - The upgrade to the more forgiving head and the next generation shaft (S to S+) should be more of a factor than the weight. Titleist would have built both at a swing weight of D2-D3 unless otherwise specified. Off-center hits should feel better and do much better. I have that shaft in a 816 H1 25 set to 24 and it is much better than the 913 24 it replaced, also going from S to S+.

Thanks for the response. My new 915 will be delivered tomorrow. Like I said, I strike my 910 well, so I really didn't NEED a new driver. All reviews rave that the 915 is much improved over past models. I can't see myself ever playing anything other Titleist. I have converted four people to Titleist clubs. They all love them.
  13. It may be the shaft. If you tend to have a quick swing or a more aggressive move from the top, you may need a shaft with a stiff tip like the Diamana White or Kuro Kage silver. A fitting session will usually help you adjust your equipment to your current swing and set-up.

Does this chart apply to the 915 line as well? I've never seen the chart with the face angle.
