  1. So I've been trying to find which driver will work best for my game. I've always been a big fan of swoosh and everything about them so I been playing swoosh clubs since they came out and I've tried them all. I have always been between a 20-22 handicap throughout most my life, I try. This year I got a golf membership for the first time and played as many rounds this year as I had the three previous combined. I also gave up on my swoosh clubs and switched to a set of Titleist DCI oversized and my game improved dramatically. With me being able to go to the range and the course with much more frequency my handicap dropped to a 14. I also went to my local goodwill and found numerous Titleist drivers and fairway woods for outstanding prices. I was always envious when I was younger and saw people with Titleist 975 drivers, and now I have a 975D 975J 975J-VS and a 983K. So long story short I'm trying to find which one sets up best for my game, all have stiff shafts and are 9.5 degrees. I have a natural draw to my swing and a decent swing speed from what the simulator said that I played this previous winter. Any help would be great thanks!

Had to spend some time looking under "previous models" under Clubs to see how far all this dated back. Everything you list goes back about to the turn of the century. The 983 only goes back to about 2003. You can pretty much pick whichever one suits your eye and feels good, if there is a difference you can discern. Needless to say, any driver in the last 5-7 years will be a big improvement for forgiveness and distance. There may be someone on this site that can remember differences between the 2001 to 2003 models.

I expect a lot on former swoosh players will probably finding out soon how good Titleist clubs really are. You will find the common theme on the team Titleist sight is to get properly fit for your clubs. Going off old specs. Is no good. It you take the time to get fit and not just pick up something off the rack you will absolutely love your Titleist clubs...
    Welcome to the family!
  4. Wow! Wish my Goodwill had those!
TheBay is just about as convenient. I've found many Titleist drivers there. A while back I started thinking the newer, large-head drivers weren't doing me any favors. Experimented with 3 woods and older drivers with smaller heads. Settled on 975J-VS. Have never hit driver so consistently...or long.

Sort of ignored this in my previous post. You may have hit your "new" drivers already and discovered their characteristics. If your natural tendency is left, you will probably find that the 975j-vs and 983k put you even more left as they have a bit of a draw bias, even though the faces are square. My tendency is a fade and these two are my favorites as I end up pretty straight with them.

In my experience, it seems that the 975d is probably neutral or maybe a touch of a fade bias. Although it isn't uncontrollable, I usually have a significant fade with this driver. The feel and sound are very nice, though. I like the smaller head and I usually make good contact. It seems to be fairly forgiving for a head of this size. I have noticed that I don't get near the distance with this as with the 975j-vs or the 983k. Probably drops off about 20 yards. In spite of the distance and fade issues, I take this out from time to time because it is such a classic and feels so nice.

Have never hit the 975j so I can't really comment on that one. I have read in forums that it is not a draw bias like the j-vs and the 983k. Also, it might launch a little higher than the j-vs.
